An important mid-18th century English chimneypiece of strong architectural form, with many hallmarks of the work of Sir Henry Cheere. In Statuary, Convent Siena and Sicilian Jasper marbles, with side facing consoles to the jambs, abutting inground mouldings carved with bead and reel, richly figured Siena frieze panels overlaid with Vitruvian scroll, flanking a projecting centre tablet of book matched Sicilian Jasper beneath a corniced mantel shelf featuring a tier of crisply carved egg and dart moulding.
