STATUARY MARBLE

Statuary marble, as the name suggests, has always been a favoured material for carving sculptural objects and especially during the late 18th and early 19th century, was used in the manufacture of the finest chimneypieces. It is now very difficult to locate statuary block, free of veining, of the quality that was readily available in earlier centuries, and it commands a very high price.
